The famous golf course designer Alister Mackenzie designed Sharp Park Golf Course.
Alister Mackenzie is best known for designing the
Augusta National Golf Course, where the Masters Tournament is played.
Although the Sharp Park Golf Course project was begun in 1929,
the clubhouse was not completed and the grand opening was not held until April 16, 1932.
More than 400 golfers played on the opening day. Over the years, there were several
changes in the configuration of the links. In the 1930's storms eliminated
some of the holes near the ocean. In the late 50's and early 60's a new
freeway bisected the course and the configuration was changed once again.
